Default 8 3/4 questions

I am putting my 8 3/4 rear end back together after having the gear changed and have a couple of questions, what nut do I put an aftermarket 355 gear tag under, and does the 355 stamp face the front or back of the car?

Can I use permatex blue on the third member gasket or is there something better to use?

Do I install the stationary axle shaft, then install the shaft with the adjustment key until snug and back it off one notch? I know there is a spec for this but was told it can just be backed off one click.

Thanks!

The tag goes under the nut at 2 o'clock..???

The 3.55 faces forward.

You want to use the BLUE for the gasket?

SNUG and then back off til you get about 20 thou or so.

Thanks for the reply Mr Fiberglass, I want to use the Blue along with the gasket, I don't have any gauges to check for thousandths of inches so I was hoping I could do it buy key notches on the adjuster,is this possible?

Thanks.

the mopar orange axle rtv is best its deseigned for it . install drivers first then pass. slowly tighten adjuster while moving in and out till tight then back off just till you have play . spec is roughly .010

nas.......I just glued a gasket on to the housing and lightly oil the face of the pig so it never sticks !! I believe the actual spec is 17 or 18 OEM specs..... I don't have a factory manual with 8 3/4 specs.

wee...... 10 ??? ............. I really doubt that it is nearly that tight.

mister- just checked the bible for accuracy. we're both correct. actual spec is .008-.018 . i'm always one to go with tight en of spec (allow for wear and tear). the book also said tighten to zero and back off four notches and recheck.
