new cam
put a new cam in my 383 today and all of a sudden the ported vacuum for the vacuum advance has vacuum at idle? The vacuum is weak but before there was none. The vacuum gets stronger as you rev the engine as it should. sometimes if you blip the throttle the vacuum is gone when the engine comes to rest at idle. Am I missing something here? I like running my VA for the better mileage, but the inconsistency is making it difficult to set my timing.
any ideas? Julian incidently the carb is a carter 750 afb (not EB), the manifold is an EB torker, and the cam is a MP P4452993 |

I'm assuming that you had to set the throttle plate open a bit more to get it to idle with that cam. The throttle plate is now opened up to the ported vacuum hole. You might want to drill a small hole in the throttle plates (.040"?) to allow additional idle air so you can close the throttle more at idle.
