Default clutch?

I'm looking for a clutch for my 440 Cuda. Should I go for the diaphram or the 3 finger style? It's a mildly modified street car in the 450hp range with a pass down the strip once in a while. Any make seem better than others? Thanks

I like the Centerforce dual friction clutch. It lasts, has great smooth feel, holds tight, but has a very heavy foot... a bit of a workout. I don't mind, just a shock when i get back into my ricer.

hello, fro man "old" clutch racer. use the Mcloed borg &beck/long combination clutch with either the series 200 or 300 series disc.
the B&B with long style fingers is a very good clutch. easy pedal pressure, will have some C/W. It is easy on drive trains.
In fact call Mcloed, talk to les. don't call the tech line!! explain what you have, they can set you up. I use this same setup in my 340 duster, works very very good.

I used a Hays Borg & Beck clutch. CRAP. (Mr. Gasket stuff)
Jam nuts on finger height adjusters backed out, high pedal pressure
(in my opinion), greater stress on clutch linkage components.

Switched to a McLeod 3,000# diaphragm pressure plate,
organic, sprung-hub disc, and billet steel flywheel combination.
All McLeod brand stuff. These components cost me more up front
than the Mr. Gasket stuff.

Result? Excellent. Everything fit within my stock 440 b/housing,
and the clutch worked really well. Good stuff. The diaphragm
is an excellent design for a hot street car that sees light racing,
and, due to its basic design, will have a lighter pedal pressure
than a comparable Borg & Beck or Long style pressure plate design.
(you remove your under-dash over center spring with a diaphragm,
as it's not needed)

Just some things I've learned...

you're right, the diaphragm is good. If you used a 3000# B&B/long clutch it would break parts. the clutch, I'm refering to is less than 2000# and has a small C/W on fingers. my clutch in my duster is 1400#, small C/W, 300 series disc, it runs 11.60's and the pedal is very soft. hope this helps,
