Holley carb ?
Should I replace the 750 edel on the 318 in the Aspen with a 600 holley? This would be an intrim carb, because the 750 edel will go on the 360 when I put it in the aspen.
Best time for the aspen is 15.65 @88. Will I see a decrease going with the smaller carb? |

You have not surpplied enuff in for a guess. Sometimes a change in carb size that drastic can cause your car to go faster or run like crap. A 750 on a 318 is alot when it's only going 15's. I would have told you to use a 600 max at those speeds/times.
I'd bet you would go faster. et wise. |

Specs are
Stock 318 short block 273 heads Cam is unkown but not stock 3" dual exhaust, stock manifolds edel performer intake 8 3/4 3.23 SG SS springs 750 edel carb ET above is not with the SS springs You think the 600 will slow it down? Not that 15.65@88 mph is blazingly fast |

Well, I pick up a holley 600 vac secondary on the way home from work. Put a #37 shooter and the small yellow spring in the secondaries.
Took it out and I can launch at a lower rpm, kind of slipping it I guess. With the 750 I had to keep the rpm's up to keep it from bogging, which resulted in a lot of tire spin. Average 60' time was 2.3 with the 750 edel and sloppy stock springs. With the 600 holley I can definatly control the launch and man, those SS springs felt great. With the old springs the front came up and the rear sqauted. Now the rear end has that rise to it and plants the rear tires better. Im going to the track sunday. You all think I can shave a little off the 15.65 |

i would figure that a 750 cfm carb of any make would be just too much for a 318, unless that 318 has MAJOR mods to it. my 440 as it is today is on the 625-750 cfm borderline.
just my penny's worth...

1st run 16.1- the track was still shitty 2nd run 15.78@85 I let off about 50' from the finnish line. The 60' time was a 2.2 on street tires. If I hadnt have let off I think I could have shaved a little off the 15.65 best. The 600 Holley allows for a better launch and the SS springs dropped the 60' times from 2.4 to 2.2. Well, I'll have to wait till next year, but by that time I'll have headers on and Drag radials. Thanks for the help gents |
