Cry Why am I so slow???

You can see my veh and mods listed below. I think the truck is quick and I do put some others under but it seems like I am just not pulling as hard as I should. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need more mods??
Just the other day I was coming down this 4 lane back road that is mostly unpopulated and has very little traffic of any kind. Speed limit is 40mph. I was doing about 50 in the right lane. Next thing I know this pair of headlights is coming up hard from behind me in the left lane. I give it some gas and get up to about 70mph. The car behind me matched my speed and was about one car length back still in the left lane. I needed to get over to make a left turn so I hit the gas, w/ out flooring it. The car also hit the gas and blew by me like I was tied to a damn tree. He must have been flooring it. The car was one of those Infiniti G35s. It had dual exhaust, other than that I have no idea what type of motor was in it.

The G35 shares the same engine as the 350Z, except its rated as 260HP/260TQ. As typical of 24 valve engines, it thrives on higher RPM's and performs OK, but, its still a V6 ricer. IMHO a good Neon should give it a really good run for its money and most likely beat up on it, if I remember correctly the top of the line Neon should be over a second faster in the 1/4 mile.

I driven my brother-in-laws 350Z w/6 speed and rated at 280hp, and wasn't impressed with the performance. He kept asking me if I thought the 350Z was fast, I just told him it was OK for what it is (yeah a womens car w/no performance). IMO the 6 speed shifted worse than the 5 speed in my Dodge V10 from 1st to 2nd.

You probably shouldn't just ease on the gas when this car has a full head of steam and a lot of RPM, ya gotta hammer it. Not knowing your truck its impossible to tell what really happened. Gear ratio, oversized tires, running in overdrive when you easied down on the throttle, horse power to weight ratio, etc.....

well, problem no.1 is that it's a CC which makes it heavier than my SS/T No.2 if he had some speed on ya it'd be hard to cover the gap anyways. No. 3 It's a truck. 70mph is not the place to start a race with a car. catch him at a redlight and it'd go a little different.

I probably should have followed him to a red light and then burned his ass, but unfortunately I had to get to a class that I was already late for.
I can't wait til I get my supercharger!!! Heh heh

Default G35

Not be a bench racer, but the G35 would probably beat your truck from a stand still also - 1/4 mile = good driver high 13s - low 14s. Assuming you are not in those ranges.

As someone mentioned above the SRT-4 Neon would roast a G35 though. Those are plenty quick. I've seen the SRT-4s at the track. The big problem people seem to have is lack of traction. Due to that, I have not seen them personally go below 14s. They have a lot of bang for their buck for an econobox car.

Get that supercharger then you'll be eating G35s for lunch.

Rice But...

My neighbor has a G35, and I had my hands full in the truck listed below. (5,300 pounds worth.) He took me on the line for about 100 feet. Shift second I pulled past him pretty good, but as his revs climbed, he made up the speed difference. We ran three times, he won the third. Go figure.

Sylvester dont get down on your truck. The G35 is quick, with the same horse power as your truck but less torque. You would probably get him from a light but remember you have a truck that out weighs that car by about 700 to 1000 pounds thats alot to make up when your at 70mph and your 5.9 makes all it's toque low rpm. Get that super charger and you will kick ass.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am not really getting down on my truck...I love it. I just wish someone would walk up to me and say, "here," and hand me $7k in cash so I could go buy lots of add ons for my R/T. It takes time, but when I am done the truck will absolutely scream. If only my impatience would stop getting in the way, Heh heh
On a more positive note I smoked a supercharged v6 frontier from a red light this evening. I didn't even plan on racing the guy but as soon as the light turned green he was on it. He got a pretty good jump but I wasn't about to stand for that crap. By the time I hit 90mph I was waving goodbye to him into my rear view mirror. I have no idea what he was thinking.

Out of the 10-15 SRT-4's I've seen running at National Trails and Norwalk, I only saw one run in the 14's, the rest were high 13's with 1 or 2 with the stage 1 upgrade running 13.0-13.2. If I could stand having a 4-door I would get one in a minute, until then I'll stick with my 2-door 99 R/T.

Be careful out here in Scottsdale, too many cops/radar guns sitting around just waiting.

At 70 mph you also have to remember that you are pushing MAJOR air.....and your RT when compared to the G35 is about as Aerodynamic as a closed barn door.

I'd bet it'd be a good race from a stand still. My boss has a G35, and while I has impressed (mostly by the handling), it didn't seem all THAT good. They are nice cars thou.

Wouldn't trade a Dak R/T for one either

I don't know your Trans, but if it was an Auto at certain speeds you will find the "lag" spot where you are to far in a gear to drop down or get kickdown. But most drivers will find the lag spots and if they feel a bit of heat on them they will get out of it quickly and get the rpm's to a grunty spot or ready for lunch area on the rev counter. My Tiptronic Subaru had a bad lag spot @ 30-35mph but @ 45mph it would drop way down and get a good kick........Nothing like the Dodge though

Sylvester,
You have many thing to concider. Pick your races carefully (use your truck's strong point) Light to light. Some of the ricers have modded more than just the fart pipes. If you're gonna race light to light, wacth out for the big boy rice rockects, 300z tt, 3000GT VR4, RX7 tt, and the big daddies 93' to 98' Supra tt( it's stong point is on the roll). All these cars start off at over 300 hp stock. If you line up with any of these cars, it would be wise to have around 350 to 400 HP to the wheels. I should know, I own a 94 Supra tt and I just sold a 92 VR4 3000GT TT (modded to over 550 HP to the crank) I got the chance to race a stock Viper VT/10. I raped that car off the line. I guese he nutted up and tried to stay with me, but just roasted the rubber. The horse power was matched, but I had the Advatage of full time AWD. If I didn't have AWD, or if he would have had a pair of stickies instead of street tires, the gears on the Viper would have taken me to the cleaners. Just giving you an Ideal of what some of today's rice rockets are capable of. Some of the owners of these new 350Zs are strapping Superchargers on them to add an extra 100 HP.

I just picked up an 04 SRT-4 yesterday for my nephew. Drove the car off the lot and put about 300 miles on it. The 04 has more torque and hp as compared to the 03 and while I have no times I was impressed with the performance and handling. This one had a limited slip diff and while it could break the tires loose in first it didn't have any torque steer and with slicks or very sticky tires I would think that it would hook pretty good. This was a new car so I wasn't going to abuse it, but it ran up past 100 mph in fourth with no problems and I don't doubt that it would get up to the limited speed (148 mph) at all. It will be interesting to see what it runs like after it has a few thousand miles.

Here it's 3:33 AM Monday. I'm still debating on getting an SRT-4 myself. If I do it'll be all black.

Check out the Dodge web site. www.dodge.com We paid about $21,000 for a pretty basic car. AC, CD (not premium), electric windows. But in this car the money is in the go fast stuff and that is very good.

Default Mopar

Mopar 4 life. The reason I say that is because Dodges are in my family; My father and his father used to have a Dodge dealership in Bel-air, MD. And my first car was a dodge, and My father and I used to work on his Charger together. so Dodges are in my blood. I love them!!!!!!!

Hey Import Eater, where can I find a family like that?!?!?!LOL...My brother is a Blue Oval mechanic. My parents both own GM. I've been trying to convert them, but with no luck. Though my truck is older than both of their GM products, I even have less problems. 153,000 on the odometer and I've only had to replace the water pump. Oh well, I'll just stick to roasting the competition on the streets and strip.
I raced one of them srt-4's at the local track (Cordova Dragway Park), and he pulled out a high 13 I believe. Moving the mass I was (5300lbs plus the box of around 300lbs of tools I had that I couldn't put anywheres safe cause I'm at college not home), it was hard to do much that night. I did beat a supercharged RX-7 ...how? He broke off the line. Win is a win, maybe he'll get rid of that rice.
To give yalls an idea of what my truck is doing in the quarter: 16.705@81.26 is my best so far. Hope to get it down a heck of a lot after I slap on those R/T heads and get that money saved up for the R/T cam.
