New hemi block questions
I bought a new Mopar Performance Hemi block. When I purchased it I didn't know it was already honed. Is this going to cause some problems? It will be a 472 stroker that will mainly be street driven. When I get ready to send the block to the machineshop what should I have done/checked on it? One other thing can anyone guess what in the hell was going on here? (refer to the picture)

My Barton built MP block Hemi has the same machining pads cut into it. I just assumed it was for reference points when machining?

Machining
I think they just machine some of the protrusions off the side of the block. I wouldn't worry about them, I think they are just used in the casting process. The stock blocks have those protrusions left on, but I never could see what they were used for.

MP Hemi Block
Most blocks are bored and honed to match the piston and ring setup that you are going to assemble with. Take the pieces with you when you go to the machine shop and they can advise.
As for the outside of the block, all big blocks are cast with the 440 mounting ears and hemi mounting pads and then 1 set is machined off depending on if the final part is a Hemi or Wedge. If you look at the MP 440 block you'll find the same type of machining done where the hemi pad is supposed to be. |
