Question valve covers

will small block magnum valve covers fit pre magnum heads? I am looking for the cast aluminium mopar performance valve covers and air cleaner for my '77 360 dodge engine.(the same ones that come on the 380hp magnum crate motor)

also looking for a rear sump oil pan and pick up tube for the same motor...anybody got one? thanks

The magnum and pre- magnum valve covers are NOT interchangeable. They have different bolt patterns. But you can get the cast finned Mopar performance valve covers for pre magnums also in black , raw aluminum or polished aluminum.

Just a warning on the cast alum valve covers for the LA motor:

THEY STINK!

They have no relief in the lip on the intake side and will definately interfere with an aftermarket intake manifold. You will need to grind down the surface to get them to fit. Poorly engineered if you ask me. They also tend to warp and are sometimes hard to seal.

The cover will not swap, but mopar has them from the dealer. THey seal better than any stock cover since they dont flex or bend when they are tightened down. Also if you use an after market intake just use the grey mopar race gaskets that have the rubber with metal inlay inside. These will help them clear any intake due to there added thickness and they are reusable if you pull your covers often. We use them on all of our race cars.

Actually guys the premagnum valve cover will bolt on to the magnum heads. Magnums have 10 holes and the early ones have 5. The 5 holes line up exactly with 5 of the magnum holes. I have installed two sets of early stamped steel valve covers on magnum heads with no problems. I use the premagnum mopar performance reuseable valve cover gasket and the only other thing that is neccesary is to bend the raised edge on one corner of the valve cover slightly to ensure it tightens down fully.

Now the question was will the magnum valve covers bolt to a premag engine? You will only be able to install 5 of the 10 bolts. I don't see any other issues. Just check the corners to make sure it will seal. I have not tried this yet.

Also, I think the black wrinkle finish cast aluminum valve covers are available for the premagnum engine.

That cant be possible!! The magnums are a different shape than the pre magnums. They have 90 degree corners as opposed to the 2 different sized round corners on the commandos.

I was skeptical until I tried it. I installed the old valve covers on the two magnum engines (with magnum heads of course) that I have for my stock car. No leaks. The gasket is wide enough to cover the corners. But as a mentioned before, I have not tried to put magnum covers on the old heads, but I think it would work too.

I have a set of the 5 bolt pre-magnum mopar performance covers - in good shape, but they need new paint. Paid $80 off ebay if you are interested...
Anyone have a set of 10 bolt black wrinkle performance covers they want to get rid of?
