Can I put a tach on a 91 a truck with a Cummins? Does anyone sell one or a kit to install one or is it just not possible?

Thanks

Yes, it can be done. Mopar offers one, but there is a cheaper way. Get one from Autometer. There is no better gauges made than these. That's why all racers like me use them. Make sure it's for a diesel only or it wont work.

Yes it can be done, just finding the original mopar tach is a chore, I got hold of 4 kits to fit the pre intercooled 89-91 trucks some 6 years ago, you might still find one on some dealer shelf but good luck,
the 89-91 trucks dont have any wiring loom to work the tach, and the autometer diesel tachs dont work unless you can get the silly magnets to stay on.
here is a photo to see what thje factpry one looks like

I have one in my 89 truck as well as my Cummins Ramcharger

Good luck

I have an Autometer tach on my rig and it works great. The transduced clamps on the alternator housing and it has to be calibrated with another source.
The best bang for the buck is probably the Tiny Tach, it gets its trigger signal from the pulses in the injector line and needs no calibration:

Help Similar question for 93 Ram Cummins

I read somewhere that my 93 Ram 250 is prewired for a tach (including sensor unit), even though it was not a factory installed option. (I also read that the 91 model did NOT have the factory wires installed.) I found the 4-pin connector tucked under the dash (that I believe is the tach lead). After reading the posts above, I assume the tiny tach will not use this factory lead. Question: Can the Autometer utilize this lead? .... or does anyone know of a reasonably priced aftermarket tach that does? Thanks.

Tony

I used a 93 cummins, I also just used an autometer that goes around the alternator, problem free for 30,000 miles so far.
