Unhappy Transmission Leak from weird place. Please Help.

I have 1973 A-727. The leak is coming from what looks like a socket screw or a big pin (not sure what it is) located at the rear center of the transmission right above transmission pan. What is it and why when I pressed my finger up against it, it moved in?
I described it the best I could, but if someone has an exploded view of the transmission, please post it and I will pin point location of that part.
Thanks,
Alex

PS: Does anyone know where I can download transmission service manual?

If it's on the drivers side it sounds like the kick down band adjusting screw and it should not be loose either.

No, it's in the back slightly to the right of the center (looking from the rear).

Hmm, that sound more like it. So what kind of cap should it have. Where do I buy it? What it looks like? And why do I have oil leak from that float.
Thanks

Might check a dealer, but I doubt you can buy the cap on it. Fluidd is splashed around and if the cap is missing off the top of the vent it's just splashing out while you drive. Not good since water and dirt the number one enemy of trannies can get in there and shorten it's life.

You said, "Cap is missing of the top". This float moves in the direction from back of the vehicle to the front (in and out) not top or down. Are we talking about same thing? It does look like some kind of float and it is located in the back of the transmission just above the transmission pan. I just want to make sure we are talking about same thing.
I also don’t see how it can be caped off. There is no room in the hole for any kind of cap. I am confused

What you are probably refering to is the Low and Reverse Band Link Pin. The "O" ring on the pin is most likely bad. The transmission will need to be disassembled to replace this. It is common to put some silicone in the hole after the pin is in place. Hope this helps.

Sorry about the links there. I got them from a google search and they were susposed to be 727 tranny pics.

Scott, that's a new one on me. I've been racing with these things for years and dont remeber a pin sticking out with an o ring on it. I'll have to look at my new TCI trany sitting in the shop tomorrow and see if I can find it.

That is is, the pivot pin. It is right above the pan rail on the back center, right? It leaks and you swear it is a pan leak..been there. It has an O-ring somewhere but I would just drain it and shoot some Acetone or other non risidual cleaner up there and RTV the whole pin. wait 24 hours and refill. I did my pan gasket twice before realizing it was that stupid pin leaking.

Exactly, that is what I did. I replaced my pan gasket twice and then found that leak. What a headache. How come I was able to push it in easily with my finger? Does it supposed to move like that? What is it for?
