Choke set up on Carter 2 barrel?? confused!!

The slant six is installed on a 83 D100. I was having problems with the Holley 1 barrel (the accelerator pump well seat had rotted out) so I decided to replace the carb with a Carter 2 barrel of a friends 77 D150. I took the intake and exhaust manifold with the carb and swaped it onto my truck. The 77 never had a choke installed but used a manual cable to work the choke. To make a long story short I want to us a auto choke but the spot were the choke coil bolts to on the exhaust manifold is at 90 degress to the carb itself. The movement of the rod is in the wrong direction and is to far from the carb. Can anyone take a pic of there set up or explain what's going on! It's almost as it the carb has to be spun 90 degress to make the choke work (impossible because the manifold bolt pattern).

I'll admit having a lil problem visualizing your set up, but isnt possible the thermostatic coil used to control the choke is different from 77 to 83? What I dont understand is the carb came with both intake and exhaust manifolds, why wouldn't the choke and its thermatic coil hook back up? It definetly sounds like you may need to get some additional parts from the 83.
