Mini starter locking down flywheel
Just put a new mini starter on my 400 and it binds/locks down the flywheel where you can not turn the engine by hand or rocking the car. Any ideas?

I have never had to do it but I do know that starters need to be shimmed from time to time. I would wait with that until someone else who knows more about the subject can shed there wisdom.
Sorry I can't be more help. |

On some big block they have a small steal shim that goes between the bellhousing and the starter. What I would do is see if it is there if not loosin the bolts up a bit and push the starter outward from the bellhousing until the engine is free to turn over.
Then eather make shims or you could use washers to shim it out. The starter is self centering by the front snout of the starter so you should be ok to use washers if you have to. Good luck and happy wrenchin. |

Have you looked at the starter to see where the contact is? Should leave marks if it's that tight. When it's not engaged there should be nothing close to touching unless wrong starter or wrong ring gear even without the debris shield.
