Unhappy Piston ID

Well I had some trouble with my 383 that requires a rebuild. Good and bad. I pulled the heads (Going on another project) and the pistons had L2315 on them. They are .030 over, flat tops. Are these forged? I seen forged listed as L2315F. I was told they were forged when I got the engine. Also what CR will they give. They were under a set of 906's with no milling. I am guessing a 9:1 CR? The pistons have a small plug thing in the middle. I dont have a pic yet. Anyone else runngi these? When it gets back together it is getting sprayed, so I want to make sure these are forged while the engine is apart. ONe more thing, what about decarbonizing them? carb cleaner and a rag? Any quicker ways. Thanks

Those that can, build an engine for the power that they want. Those that can't, spray...

Come on, at 9:1, you can bolt on an ATI ProCharger for under $3,000 and make much more power than nitrous. That power is also easier on the engine and has less risk of causeing a catastrophic failure.

Those are forged pistons. They are around 9:1 depending on exact head cc's and piston deck height. If your rebuilding the engine, have the machinist tape off the ring belt and glass bead the piston tops.

ok ok sorry about the nitrous suggestion. Was only going to go that route since it is easiest, however, my main idea was to get a set of Eddy's being aluminum and all then bolt up a pair of Garrett T40B's But thinking of it, 9:1 should be low enough with forced induction. The 383 I believe spun a main bearing, no noise just really hard to turn over. Engine has less than 4K miles on it. I do believe i caused this also. (will post details after I tear into the bottom end.) Ok since those are forged. (I thought so just wanted a second opinion) and I wont need to "lower" the CR using aluminum heads (aluminum drop CR approx 1 point right?) I am going to turn up the heat on this rebuild. Thanks again

Cool Thanks. At 8.9:1 (.030) over, forced induction is looking mighty feasible. . ehostler, doyou have any experience with ATI? Again thanks guys. I do have pics, but not digital, gotta go get them developed first.

I have no experience with them, yet. After some research, I have found that they make a superior product and stand behind it. The ATI website is www.procharger.com and you can buy the setups from www.thesuperchargerstore.com
