9800 is a Chevy linkage carb. 9801 Mopar. Those are after market TQ's!! No pollution crap! Very hard to find. That is why you can't find a kit. Scarcer than hen's teeth! I bet a regular kit will work. If it has the nitrophyll floats then go to NAPA and order brass ones. Wish I could find one of those!

Yeah, I bet a it would
I am guessing as long as the kit is for a TQ with the smaller primaries it should work.
Yeah, believe it or not scored it on Ebay for $40. Checked around a few swap meets and they wanted $50-60 bux for "rebuildable" (meaning junk) TQs. |

All of the rebuild kits are the same except for the base gasket for the larger or smaller throttle blades. I can pick up used tq's for 25 to 45 around here all day long since not many know how to make them work right. IF they would only learn, it's easier to set up and more throttle responsive than any holley ever could be. And Advance has them new for around 189.00 here. Cant go wrong with a tq.

Advance had no clue
YEAH, I knew they sold them remans so that is the first place I went to find a kit. 2 guys looked at it and thought it was some kind of Holley.
The manager knew what it was but couldn't cross the number in the books. Another locally owned auto parts chain laughed at me when I told them I wanted a kit so I could rebuild it. "Throw that piece of junk out and buy a Holley! Hahaahahhhahahah~!" Well, that tells me he knows NOTHING about carbs. IMO the Thermoquad is the best 4bbl carb ever designed. It just got a bad rap because Holley minded tuners tried to screwdriver it to death with poor results. |

That last statement hit the nail right on the head. Plus the leaking jet well that's epoxied onto the bottom of the bowl did not help it's popularity much either, but it's an easy fix too.
Think last time I got a kit it was from Carquest. Might try them if you have one. |

Not bragging, but I scored 2 TQ's one small, one big for 10 a piece and almost got 6 for 20 but the guy behind me was faster with the wallet at Fall Fling. Also got a rebuild kit still in plastic for 6. I sold one I rebuilt on Ebay but never ran it. Ill keep one of these when I get my motor running again. I believe it will be a great carb once I get it dialed in.

Great deal there Pishta. I think you'll like it too once you get your engine done.

Doh! Never got a good deal at a swap meet!
Been to plenty of swap meets over the years and I swore off of them.
It seems that 90% of what you are looking at is overpriced junk and the 10% that is a good peice someone else snags it before I do! |

DR R. I bought a 73 340 intake, Two TQ's, one runable, $50. I got the manifold for $35 non egr. This was July 5th in Knoxville at the Mopar show. Got a 71 4 speed TQ and another less desirable model for $15 at an allbrand show in Nashville. The 71 is a one year only 340 carb! Will be worth some serious buck for the "Numbers" crowd! Chivy guy didn't know what he had! (Neither did I 'til a week later )

I just rebuilt a ThermoQuad a few months ago and got the kit from Napa . Try Part # 2-5584 for the kit and #2-427 for the floats. The kit was $25.43 and the 2 floats were $7.90 each. Hope that helps.

Talking about a steal...try one of the Super Competition Carbs..for a grand total of: $50...yes Sir....
I have several of the 9800 series carbs here, I love the self contained choke...actually makes them workable with all sorts of aftermarket intakes. BTW: Snoop around on eBay...good stuff comes up then and now..kits can be had for $5 a piece, I just picked up an original Carter kit for the 9800 series carbs last week, scored another one a few months back. |

Doh! Missed the Knoxville Show on July 4th
So far I only was able to make a couple shows this year. The Smokey Mountain show in Sevierville. And the Mopars at Norris lake. The last one didn't even have a swap meet. A big damper on my car show attendance was getting married this year and was busy just about every weekend with things concerning the wedding ect.
Well, happily married but my saving is spent on the wedding and the honeymoon. Wouldn't you know the time I find a killer deal on another MoPar to start wrenching on I am BROKE! Ran into a buddy I usually run into at the shows. He has a '71 Charger original 383 car for sale cheap. Totally unmolsted in any way, wants $1500 for it and I am flat busted! Been a tough MoPar year for me. |
