Default A-body /6 to 360 swap

I'm sure someone has done this swap before so heres goes nothing. I am doing a /6 225 to a 360/727 combo swap in a 1972 Dodge Demon but I have a few questions. I have upgraded the front brakes and suspenion to handle the v8 already. I have the schumacher motor mounts that will let me use the /6 k member.

1) I do not know what transmission is in the car right now but i think it may be a 904 (not sure what came with the /6 225's). Anyways, will I be able to use the trans mounts that are already in there for my small block 727 or will i need new ones? I also read a tech article on the swap that says I'll need to use a small block trans cross member? Is there any type of trans mount that will let me use the /6 trans cross member?

2) It also said I will need a "drop center steering link" from a small block car...true? It says i need that so the oil pan will clear the front steering and the /6 one does have the "drop" and is straight? True?

3) I know I will need a new driveshaft, anybody know a place that sells them specifically for this swap? Or should I just modify the original?

4) I have a 8 3/4 rear end out of a b-body that I want to use but the tech article once again says I will need to modify it to fit. I think it is 2" longer then the a-body one. What types of modification will I need to do to the rear suspension to make it fit?

Thanks for the help in advance. I'd like to hear what kind of problems I might be in for from people who have done this before. thanks. Also, if anybody knows of any online tech articles that I might want to look at, can u post the link? thanks.

Since your driveshaft is more than 30 years old, don't use it. you can buy a new one pretty cheap .

I got mine from mancini. you just have to tell them what u joints you want and they ship it with the rear one already attached. you just have to measure the front and have that joint welded in by a driveshaft shop

well i would eventually get a new one but money is real tight and i have resorted to trading some good stuff for 2nd rate parts. I just want to get this thing running! then i can start replacing parts. The original driveshaft only has 17,243 miles on it so its in better condition than most.

I was told that OE mopar shafts are lined on the inside with a layer of rubber and that over time, it can detoriorate and cause vibrations.

True? maybe, maybe not. At that time, the shaft kit was 150 bucks so I considered it cheap insurance against doing handstands on my yearly visit to the track. I just looked and it now 240 bucks, talk about inflation

you will be paying a driveshaft shop to shorten your existing shaft and weld one of the ends back on and balance, so if you started with a new kit, you would only be paying to do that work one time.

Default 36 swap

I've done this swap on every a-body I've had. Your trans mount and bracket are interchangeable from 6 to 8. You won't have to drop the center link at all to get clearance on the pan there is plenty of room. As for the 8 3/4 from a b body, that will have to cut to fit the correct width of your demon. You will also need to get the axles cut to fit the new width. B bodies used 5 by 4.5 inch bolt pattern were as your demon uses 5 by 4 inch pattern. It might be easier, but not cheaper to find an a body 8 3/4 and use that as instead of the b body rear. All spring locations and brake lines are still used in the same place when going from 7 1/4 to 8 3/4. Hope that gets you in the right direction.
