Default Cyl. head volume

Does anyone know the correct way to "cc" combustion chambers? I'd like to measure mine as the heads are off to replace a blown gasket. What equipment is required to get an accurate reading? I'd like to hear from some people who have experience doing this. Thanks,..................djs

Lots of ways but the way I cc heads with cheap stuff, get a peice of 3/8" clear acrylic about 6x6 drill two hloes about 1/4 or 3/8 one to put in the fluid, one for air excape grease the plastic stick it over the cyl use a 20 cc or bigger syringe ( buy @ a farm store) inject colored alcohol through one hole till full measuring the cc's and make sure the head is level. ( And they will hold less if the valves are in LOL)

When using the coloured alcohol to cc the head.
"Don't"
"Don't" use your wife's dining room table. The stains are very hard to get out before her family see's the table.

Water will work but it has a higher surface tension than alcohol and as for as the dont post that is right on I dont work on my cars in the house and we dont eat in the shop except an occasional pizza and beer LOL

That extra surface tension won't even account for a .05 cc difference.

I just did this in my garage this afternoon and follow what the others have said but it is best to have the head a little off level, it helps to fill the chamber and purge the air. I used a 100 ml. graduated cylinder that was purchased at a drug store. My untouched 596 head was 72 cc with 1.88 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves. Don't forget to install the spark plug, LOL.
