Default Head Modifications

Just pulled the head on my '66 225ci slant, and I was wondering if there were any head "tricks" to have done when I send it out to the machine shop. I.e., could/should I put bigger valves in, port/polish the head, different springs, etc?

I'm going to get a set of split headers (Dutra Duals?) for the exhaust side of things, and 3 sets of Weber 2bbls. for the intake.

Obviously, I'm looking for the most performance I can get out of it, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dan

Lightbulb Pocket Port & Mill

Do some basic "pocket porting" and mill .060 to .100 off the head to increase the compression. (take some measurements to see how much to take-off)

If you really want to go all-out, put some oversize valves in.

I am polishing the chambers on my 198. Gasket matching the ports, clean up the bowls. It is my first attempt. Probably take off .090!

Got about 12 hours in it now! I polished the chambers up like chrome! Got things looking pretty good. Take it to the machine shop today for the valve job.

Well, now that's the engine's out, and I can send both it and the head to the shop, what are good engine tricks to do? I know it's relatively hard to stroke it due to the stroke already. I'm planning on boring it .060 over, and milling everything to raise the comp. a notch or two. Like I posted above, I'm getting the split exhaust and 3 Weber dueces for the intake, as well as getting everything ported, polished, and whatnot.

198 connecting rods. Set the piston higher in the bores. 2.2 turbo pistons. There is some Ford valves that are cheaper and bigger.

Try www.slantsix.com

also www.slantsix.org Doug Dutra's website.

My head is back from the machine shop. Took .090 off, should have took off more! ($90) I will post a link to some pics when we finish porting and polishing. Right now you can go to www.moparts.com on general topics and look for a post R/T head. Clic on Shine_runner's attachments to see the pics.
