Default Oil Pump Drive Installation

When I have my cam set up where I want it which direction should the distributor slot be when I reinstall it?

parallel with the cam, with the front of the slot slightly toward the left side of the engine.

That is the recommended position, however, it really doesn't matter. Once you drop in the distributor, position it so that you have the vacuum advance pod in the middle of max range of motion. Then turn it until the rotor points directly at the closest post on the cap. That post is now #1. Place plug wires into the cap with that being the reference #1 position.

That is with the #1 cyl at TDC on the compression stroke.
