440 rod bearing failure by transmission
Has anyone heard of the torque convertor, 727 tranny putting to much forward pressure on the crank causing the rod bearings to fail.
Thanks |

No. But if the torque converter balooned, or the engine/torque converter/trans aren't assembled correctly, it could destroy one of the main bearings, namely the thrust bearing.

Connecting rods need to have more end play than the crank for obvious reasons. One of them being that if the rod has less than the crank, it will bend when the crank moves back and forth depending on how much clearance there is between the pin end of the rod and piston. So if you had a rod with less end play than the crank it can ruin the bearings not to mention other things. Especially if the converter balloons. I'm not saying this is what happened just something to consider. It is very important to check all these clearances upon assembly.
