Default parts fell out of 727 PLEASE help!

I finally got around to servicing the 727 tranny in my Ramcharger. Whenever I removed the filter three parts fell out from a front corner of the valve body. This is probably what is wrong with the 727 as it will not shift or go into gear.

I am not sure what the function of these parts are or exactly how to reinstall. Please help if you can.

There is a plunger, spring and what appears to be a retainer. They are approximately 3/8" diameter. It looks like they were once staked in the valve body.

Can I simply remove the valve body and restake these parts in place? I have never had a valve body off a tranny before. Are there any precautions I need to take or pitfalls to avoid?

Many thanks for your help!

Several components in the VB resemble your description, can you ID them from the pic below?

Yes, it is definitely the shuttle valve throttle plug and the shuttle valve spring. They fell out of the bottom of the valve body and another part which appears to be retainer fell out also. Looks like the retainer was staked into the valve body.

Would these being out cause the transmission to not want to shift or go into gear?

What is the chance that I have done more extensive damage?

Thank you very much for your help.

I realize that I can purchase a book with this info but the only one I can locate is over 60 miles away and it will be tomorrow before they are open. I have searched the internet and can't find a website with the correct info.

The shuttle valve plug is held in by a thick steel plate and 5 screws. This plate also retains two other valve assemblies, so it's hard to see how the plate could come loose and only the shuttle plug/spring would fall out.

The valve body definitely needs to come out for further investigation.
