1979 318 Horsepower!
All the papers and dokuments I have seen, tells me that a 1979 Dodge Diplomat with an 318 2 bbl should have 140 Horsepower. But my car brings me up from 0-100km in about 11 sekonds. and the car weight about 18-1900 kilos. so that is not bad at all.
but I have heard that american car makers gave up lower HP rating than really was, so people could afford to pay insuranse. or was that only in the sixties? and how was the horses measured? in flywheel? or out the rear wheels? when I use Dyno 2000 and enters the correct data from the service manual it tells me about 175 Hp instead if 140. ยจ Do you know? Desktop Dyno goes by gross horse power which is the motor with no accessories like alt, etc while the government goes by net horse power including all accy's. That's the difference. U.S.A. actually rated the L.A. 318 at 185 gross, 150 net. They may have "de-tuned" after those 1974 numbers, though.....
