Help head disassembly

I started tearing down a set of 906's so i could polish the chambers, cc them and clean o up the valves. The intake is loaded with junk on it. Only thing is the valves wont pull through the guides. It feels like there is a lip were the valve locks were. Can i sand the valve stem down to get them out? It really feels like if I try to pull them out, it will groove/scrape the guide pretty badly.

It maybe a carbon or varnish build-up. Try a good solvent and see if that helps.

The part that looks like it is scrapping is the valve tip. Like the valve locks slightly expanded the upper lip of the valve groove. I can fell it with my hand. Engine had under 4K miles on it

Use a smooth flat file to remove the edge. Spin the vlave with one hand and lightly push the file with the other. The valve should come right out now. Don't get too carried away with the metal removal if you plan to reuse the valves.

Sounds like the hardened layer was removed from the valve tip when the heads were set up last and that the rockers mushroomed the top of the valve. Hard to say since I cant inspect it for myself over the net, but if that's the case you need new valves.

ah nope not the top of the valve where the rocker contacts it, but the lip on the stem where the valve locks engage. I will try the file thing. Thanks

The file trick worked! However the intake is covered is muck. I can only guess the valve seal was leaking. It looks like burned oil on the back of the valve. The exhaust has a little also. What is a good way to clean the valves? The stems are good, just the back side of the valves. This weekend I get to pull out the die grinder, and SA porting kit, and have some fun. Still gotta order the porting templates.
