Smallblock valves
Anyone know who makes "nailhead" 1.88/1.60 valves for the smallblock?
When I say nailhead I mean with no relief in the head. I heard these valves slightly hinder flow into the chamber. Is this true? Thanks! |

The grey matter upstairs says that a nail head on one side and a tulip on the other is what you should be running. I forget which is which though.
Better yet, for a few bucks more than replacement units, grab a set of stainless steel valves from ant number of places. Check Mancini racing, mildon, etc... There worth the loss of paper. |

hey rumble,
actually, i am using mopar performance stainless valves right now. I pulled the heads last weekend because of a trickle of water i noticed coming from the block to head joint. Turned out a head gasket was leaking. I used the Mopar 0.026" nominal thickness head gaskets. Dunno if that was part of the problem or not. The reason I ask about the valves is because I wanted to increase compression without milling the heads (I have custom pushrods). The goal was to eliminate the relief in the head of the valve to decrease cc's in combustion chamber. I have to cc the mopar valves to see where they stand. I wasn't sure how bad this would affect flow though. TD |

Hummm, I see. Have you visited any sites? This seems like ethier you have been there to know or you'll need to see them in hand kind of thing to know what you have to use or not.
The thin head gasket can leak easy under less than ideal conditions. |

hey don,
does the increase in compression overpower any loss of flow with a nailhead valve? do you know if there is any loss of flow with these valves? I thought there was an article once that said tulips are better flowing valves. The Mopar Performance valves have a huge relief in them. I need to cc them tonite but I think it may be above 2 cc on the intake and 1.5 on the exhaust. Tom |
