Default 904 Rebuild

Was about to have a Trans-go stage 2 shift kit installed until the boys down at the tranny shop told me there was too much friction material and I'd be throwing money away by puting a shiftkit in a tired tranny...

Got me thinkin I might wanna try rebuilding my tranny. Picked up the How to rebuild Mopar s/b and did my 360 with no probs (yet ) so I guess Im somehwat mechanically inclined, and thought I could maybe do a tranny myself as well. Is this a job that should be left to the pros? Is there a tranny rebuild book like the mopar s/b book?

I found on the mopar muscle site there was a very brief article on reuilding 904's, but I think Im going to need a little more direction than that.

Thanks

Default Torqueflite book

Hey Fargo;

Check Mancini's web site, in their book listings I saw a book about TF's. Just looked and it's only 727's under HP books.

you could use the 727 book if you can't find a 904 tranny. They are the same except the 904 is smaller. THe valve bodies are interchangeable. They are easy to rebuild IF YOU HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS. You need special tools to do things like...remove the retainer ring from the clutch packs. Theres a few others you'll need. I suppose you could make do with a few home made tools though...automatic transmissions are pretty easy to rebuild. Any old motors manual or service manual will have the teardown instructions in them.

Default 727A

Hey Fargo;

Went through a 727A several years ago the main internals are fairly straight forward it's the valve body thats a nightmare. Get a factory manual it's a good source of info. It took about 2 1/2 hours to get all the clearances right had to replace a few pieces and needed to replace shims. Oh and the clutch packs are tough to assemble without a press or some kind of clamp to depress the springs.
