Default should I port my heads?

Here is what I have:

68 charger
440-
-mp cam 4452993: .474 I / .474 E, advertised duration 280
intake/280 exhaust, 110 lobe sep
-1.6 roller rockers
-srp flatops 10:1 comp
-performer rpm intake
-hedman 1 3/4" primaries, full 2.5" dual exh w/two chamber
flomasters & crossover pipe
-346 (71) heads w/ 2.14,1.74 valves installed.
"machine and blend short turns and bowls" and 3 angle valve job, no port match.
-850 speed demon
-mp electronic conversion kit/recurved by FBO,carquest lx101 box(16 initial/34 total)
-holley blue pump, 3/8" sender and all 3/8" line.

727-
-2800 stahl, shift kit
-3.91 suregrip
m/t et streets 26x10.5x16

last trip to the track was a disappointing 13.5. admittedly, the carb is too big and at that time, was jetted box stock. Don hooked me up with some smaller jets and some other suggestions and it runs better, but have not been to the track to test yet.

winter is coming, so I have some down time to work on car. my goal is to run mid 12's and still be streetable.
I plan to do a cam swap (racer brown) and if I have to, ditch the 850 speed demon for another demon that is right for me. I was wondering if porting the heads would be worth it FOR ME, and for my stated goal of a mid twelves street car. I only ask because they have had some light work done to them already(see above) I am wondering if hogging out the ports some and matching will get me that much more.

I have to decide first whether or not to yank the heads and port them so I can have the correct cam made for me.

Are you doing the work yourself? If you are, I'd say it would be worth it. Run the whole gambit on them.
Between the better carb, (size) and better cam coming, (I think you need more stall with the heavy car) the .5 your looking for should not be far away.
You didn't have the heads flowed did you? Just wondering if you had a map of flow rates for the heads.

I would have them done, I have never ported heads and do not have the time.

the shop I would have do the porting does have a flow bench, but I never had them flowed years ago when motor was built.

hey fish, you ever heard of Engines by Elsasser? he built my short block- he is in miller place.

I do not even know how much it would cost to have them ported. If it costs more than 4 or 5 hundred, I will save my money for EB's and just do the cam/carb for now.

Yes, I have there card. They do alot of the oval track guys engines. They are often in the win circle after the other 2 big places. For a small shop, the rep is excellent 5 star.
A counter guy here in Centereach @ auto zone is a MoPar guy die hard. (Theres actually 2 off them.) He recomended me themto do the work. Being new to this eastern side of the eastern county, I don't know jack out here and really didn't see myself driving 40 min.'s west for a shop.
Would Elsasser have the flow bench?
I agree on the price. After awhile, just how much is it your willing to dump in to the ol'iron?
I have a set of S/B "J" heads I'm looking to have done. Looking to step up on these some. Spending $500-$600 on porting is the limit on those. Gear $$$ seperate.

yeah, last time I was down there, he told me he has a bench now. I would recommend him to anyone-quality. he does the little things, like measuring stuff, which it seems that most guys cannot be bothered with.
