Default Thoughts of what a 67 Belv will do in 1/4 mile with this combo?

Were building a 67 belvedere with a fairly mild 440... 9.5 compression,484/284 cam...67 440 hp heads,725 demon vac.sec.carb...727 with a 2800 stall,3.55 gears with posi.... Any thoughts what this combo might run in the 1/4 mile...? Im guessing the weight at 3500 lbs....anybody got anything close to this combo that we can compare?

Post a quess for you

Hi Jetstar;

A friend had a 67 4dr Belvedere similar equipment 440 10:1 comp, same cam, 906 heads, 3310 carb, electronic ign MSD6 dist was curved, headers hooker 1 7/8's through 2 1/2 turbo type mufflers. 727 2500 stall with 3.55's and L60 15's. It ran 12.80's at 108 on street tires at Orange County Raceway in So Cal. (yes it was that long ago) for anyone that remebers OCIR. Of course he spent a lot of time tuning, it was well sorted out combo.

The weight of '66-'67 B bodies were more like 3800 lbs.

There's a lot of variables here. Tuning, actual performance of the bought parts, vs what they are rated to do, ect.

I'd guess....on the optomistic side a low 13, pesimistic, a high 14.

I understand the TUNE has to b right.Altitude is no prob here.Condition of parts will be new.All except for the 72 440 shortblock,which has near zero miles.Thanks for the inputs...I was guessing from earlier projects and experience,somewhere inbetween 13.50 and high 14's....depending on who drives it and what tire the owner wants us to use. 3800lbs sounds a bit high,as my old 66 newport weighed that much.This is no where as much car as that one was.But I think u guys hit it on the head mostly.I dont think the owner can grasp the different realitys of how the dead 318,and the 440 swaped motor are going to compare.He sounds like theres no grasping the truth of how much faster this will be ! I know ! About 5 seconds faster in the quarter ! Thats a bunch

Any idea what the 65 B bodies (satellite) weigh? They appear to be smaller in size than the 66 and newer B bodies.

Thank you for the feedback. My 65 ply 2 door has a 440 with aluminum heads, glass hood, deck lid and bumpers, row bar and ladder bars with a 115lb dana housing and two racing seats no other interior) I'll have to weigh it soon, but you gave me a good idea. I did not have any idea of the weight whether it wieight 3800 lbs or 3400lbs or somewhere inbetween.

A local Gentleman had the same combination BUT 4.10 gears. Weighs in at 3465, full upholstery and a roll bar. It runs 12.80's at 108. THUS 3.55 gears=== 13.15 at 106.35

No 2 motors are the same. Unless they were built by the same guy, who took the same measurements while assembling. Example:How do we know the compression is 9.5?(on either car) Were deck clearance measurements taken, or did it just say 9.5 on the box the pistons came out of?

Same port work?

Your example makes your guess an educated one, but a guess none the less, just like the rest of us.

Of coarse no 2 combinations work the same,but if gives a frame of referance of what one is likely to do and how it might perform.The compression guesstimate is from taking what the stock factory piston is,and mating it with a peticular head chamber volume...and u get a general idea of what the compression is supposed to be.If stock is this,then a head with this much volume= this.Not trying to do rocket science,or dead on the money ,gotta know absolutely for sure...what it comes out to in fractions....9.2 to 9.5 is close enuf for me !Streetable enuf for 92 octane pump gas,and no or close to no detonation,like always,is preferred.Thanks for the guesses guys.And for the usable facts.

Sure Dave just an educated guess and trying to see who's bell would ring. Just like I guessed you were going to use a Poly head to run those mystery numbers.

Forgive the slow reply . Turkey Day Down South eh. When the "Mistry Numbers" apeared on your wind shield I commented something about Poly head numbers. They were kind of concervative for a big block drag car. Pretty good for one in street trim though.
