that doesn't look good. can you turn the motor backwards ?
have you pulled the valve cover off on that side ?
was the lifters making noise before it happened ?
i suspect a dropped valve. can you give some more details ?

What engine is it? Where you able to turn the engine by hand before start-up? What's the engine combination? It looks like the piston hit the plug.

Did your timing chain jump teeth and hold a valve open? That is some serious kissing of the piston and valve. I would pull the valve covers and see if everything is moving while you turn slowly by hand as much as you can. I would probably pull that head and see if the motor will turn fully then, and check the piston for damage..

after I heard what sounded like a fan belt slapping the hood of the car I shut her down and pulled the valve covers, all was well, I than pulled the plug wires and rotated the motor is spun with no noise and all the valves were working with no binding. I put the plug wires back and fired her up, she ran fine for about 30 seconds than I heard what sounded like the ball in a paint can, shut her down. Took the v.covers off again and tried to rotate the motor by hand at the crank she went about 1\4 rotatin then locked, I could move it backwards as far as I wanted but when it hit that spot it locked up. Thats when I pulled all the plugs and found THAT one. Will have to pull the head hear shortly.
thx Ted

Default noise

sounds like a chunk of piston broke off in there
is that the correct spark plug? have seen stuff like that when people use pop-up pistons and incorrect spark plugs
