Default thermoquad interchange

OK !! The Thermoquad I put on works great, however, there is no port for advance.

Can I take the base off my other T-Q (that has this port) and put it on my good T-Q?

I have had the old one apart and I can't see why not !

Thanks ; Dave

Default T-Q s

I just looked at the bases..they will interchange but, I will not gain anything because niether has a port for vac advance.

I suppose I will have to order a new unit from for a 1972,1973, 340 when I get ready to install my new 360 next year...

Mean while it still works better on my 318 than the other carbs I have tried, better mileage too.

Thank you anyway...Dave

There is no port vacuum anywhere on the carb?? maybe you could compare to one with a place for port vacuum and drill it and install a fitting.

Default port

I don't have pic of one... interesting idea though.

All the ports on both of them are direct from manifold straight thru.
Probably more to it than that to get metered vacuum frm throttle position.I will look into the idea some.
Another route might be to buy a used baseplate from an older unit?

Default Numbers

The carb on the car is a #2529 with a single vent tube,.

My parts carb is a #2140...has 2 vents

These numbers are on the very top of the carb across the front.
There are some numbers on the base under the choke pull off but they are worn down to a 9... is all that is readable. I tried to clean them off with a pencil eraser, didn't help.

Thanks for your help MisterFiberglass !!

Those sound like the top-plate raised numbers.

How about the stamped #'s on the drivers side rear ear of the base ?

Are you sure about that last 3 in the number? If it IS part of the whole # - it is not listed in my info.

What is your motor and gear?

That carb is from a 81-82 318 with 02 feedback....NOT the best HP carb.

Default engine specs

1987-360.. speed pro pistons,K6901 Summit cam, 302 heads-ported. Crane dbl timing set. 1.6 steel rockers. stock 4 barrel cast iron intake.
This engine is on the stand in my garage, all ready to install in my 73 Swinger.

Diff is a 7 1/4 but not for long. I have an 8 1/4 out of a Volare to put in as soon as I get time.

I was just wanting to solve the carb issues before I take out the 318 and put in the 360.

Well - if it is working now just leave it on.

BUT the 9073 would probably be a better piece to prep for HP.....later.

USDART, I add a correctly placed distributor vacuum advance port to all lean burn carbs. I have special tools for the job as it requires
careful placement of the mods. Email me and I will help, thanks, DAVID.

Careful placement ? - yes.

Special tools ? - NO.

I still have yet to locate the article but all it takes(if memory serves) is a 1/8" and 3/16" drill bit and a short section of 3/16 steel tubing. ....

Being a 'Locksmith' I am sure I can do it, with the instructions.
My best friend has several Thermoquad carbs and betwen the two of us we can certainly do it.
I still need some stuff from 'demonsizzler' that I will look into in a week or so.

It is TWO words - not one.

Hay us....NO problem.....

...I plead guilty to doing THAT myself many times. BUTTTT if you look in the Mopar service manuals and any of the Carter literature - the wording is "put-together" that way.

Default T-Q's

I too, have seen it both ways.
"Thermo' must mean 'thermostatic' ?
'Quad' mus mean '4 jets'?

Either way, we both know what we mean...

Idea

No "Quad" is four barrels !!

And I really don't know how and why it was actually called "that"....but IMO.....

AT the very least - people who are in the carb BIZ should know how to spell it properly !

thermo refers to the thermal isolation obtained by using the plastic center part, supposedly keeps the fuel colder as it is not directly exposed to the heat of the intake manifold. As the somewhat cooler air/fuel mixture hits the hot intake, it atomizes better. or so I have read.....

Actually it is Thermo-Quad, for Carter Thermo-Quad (back when it was introduced on a 1971 340). Two words with a dash in the middle.

You should make sure you have it right before you correct someone else's spelling.
