How about modified pump gas? I fill up with premium (93) then I drive out to the track, get some of that stuff burned off. At the track I dump in one gallon of Toluene (114 octane) and I calculated my octane to be 94.75 when I made that fastest run of mine.

That's pretty decent man! I'm about the came on weight(in my 77 van) and pull a 15.5 at 85 mph. Of course, it takes a 10:1 400 to do it. |

This is a good thread, very amusing. I like the idea of the big block A body and so did Mr. Norm!! plydus340, your car IS quite fast, you should be proud. |

I had some problems this summer, but will add my ET in the list. The best in an honest to god street trim with pump gas & no NOS and regular 205/70/15 non drag radials + 3.23 gears was 11.60/129.5 mph. A pair of 11.5/28/15 M/T ET Streets dropped it to 10.66/132.5 with the converter slipping bad. If I ever get a new converter, will drive 9's with the sleeper next summer.

When the 11.60 was run NOS leaf springs and traction bars! In that picture there is slightly stiffened 2800 lbs SS springs that will be used also in the future. The car weighs 3500 lbs and has 51/49% weight distribution. I only run three runs with the 205 wide Kelly navigators, and none of them really hit the nail; the other two were 12.4 and 11.9. Either you had too little throttle or too much, and several times within the same run . Also only three runs with the ET Streets because of some drivetrain problems earlier in the summer. The three runs with them were pretty consistent though, between 10.66 and 10.7 with 1.58 sec 60 ft time. The converter slippage was way over 20%.

A very good friend of mine runs 70 Cuda with a 593ci. Hemi 870hp on pump gas and et streets. 10.6 @ 130mph. plus the car weighs 3800lbs it is a full steel car with full interior cage and 5pt harnesses. We have also been nown to cruise on sundays around town. looking for unassuming big block chevys.
O ya thats with no NOS or any forced induction, no tranny brake or electronics plus column shift. |

DartGT66 seems to have it with a 10.66! I have to say that your car is an extreme sleeper! However, if you've ever watched the "Factory Appearing Drags" it's definately possible. Joel, care to comment?

I have 3.23 gears, 28" high tires, third gear and 6300-6400 rpm at the traps. I actually built the car more for handling & planned to try some top speed action with it, but not with this converter. The engine has not been dynoed with the current cam, 255/265 degrees @.050", and because of some failures & converter it's hard to say about the true power. I believe it's in 700+ hp range. The engine was dynoed with a bigger cam two years ago and it made 780 hp and 704 ft/lb of torque. In a 3300 lbs leaf springed dart it run 9.69/142.5 mph also on DOTs and pump gas, but I sold the body since I wanted to put my old four door back on the road. I also have a nitrous kit in it + the old bigger cam & a 3.91 geared chuck for the 8 3/4" and may try them in the future. I believe that when I get the converter fixed it will do low 10's with the 3.23's and should be pretty deep in the 9's with the NOS and the same gears. But we'll see...
Actually one of my goals was to run 10's with the 205's, but it seemed so difficult and far out of reach with the temperamental engine and marginal traction, so I forgot that idea. Maybe will get back to it later. |
