Default Rebuilding my 383: Looking for Advice

I need to rebuild my 383 and want to do it myself. I've never tackled this myself b4 so I am thinking of buying a book. I've done cam changes and dissasemblies but never puting them together. I know I need to take it to a machine shop for crack checking, cam bearings and get the heads done, but I think I can handle the rest myself. Any suggestions? I was thinking of buying this book

What do you guys think?

Thanks For any help you can give.

Scott

Scott That's a good book read it then read it again and read it as you do each step in the tear down and rebuild, BUT the first thing you need is a plan that fits your $$ make you plan realistic as what you are gonig to do with this engine and the $$ to have to spend, set down and make list of internal parts to buy plus all other parts BUT above all find a michine shop that knows MOPARS.

Thumbs up GR8 Book

Thats a very good book, I have it and am reading it now and over the winter will be rebuilding my first engine. If I don't screw things up then come spring time I'll try a 431" then again if I do screw up all my stroker/edel heads $$$ will go to fix my mess . Another GR8 book I got is HPBooks BIG-BLOCK MOPAR PERFORMANCE by Chuck Senatore, its the next step up for rebuilding HP BB's. Check Amazon.com sometimes they have these cheap, look for the used ones too, I've got some GREAT deals doing that. Good luck!!

The best book of all to get is the mopar engine book fromt your dealer. It will ahve all the casting numbers to show you what you have and what you need to get the most out of your engine. MAke sure you dont over cam you engine. Teh 383 and 400 dont like big cams. They loose a lot of low end tourque unlike a 440 that makes gobs of torque with big cams.
