Default Reman Brake Power booster for E-body

Doing a resto on a 72 Cuda. Currently working on the brakes. This E-body has power brakes, front disc / rear drums.

Went to Advance auto parts to get a remanufactured power booster/master cylinder combo and took it home. All looked the same as the old unit EXCEPT for the "eyebolt" that connects to the brake pedal.

The old eyebolt has a 3/8" dia hole and is about 3/8" wide in the thin way where it fits between 2 arms in the brake pedal mechanism.

The reman unit has a 9/16" dia hole and is about 5/8" wide in the thin way. Clearly the reman unit will NOT fit because of its eyebolt.

Am I suppose to remove the eyebolt from the original booster and use it on the reman unit? If so, what is the trick to get it off.

or did they sell me the wrong unit? Surfing the web says that Cardone part 50-3705 is the correct number, and that is what was on the box.

Anyone else had a hassle getting the right power booster? Tips?

Thanks, Tim

72 Cuda, 360/904

I got my unit from Advance for my 74 and it fit right in. Maybe
yours was just boxed incorrectly. I'm not sure if you can change the pushrods, but maybe somebody else here can help.

Thanks ghip.

I returned the "wrong" unit to Advanced. And then went to a different Advanced auto store and ordered it again. Should arrive in 2 days.

I just hope I don't get the same one again!!

I wish we had an "insider" at the Cardone factory so we could ask questions of them.

I know what you mean. It took me 4 trips and 2 different stores with Advance to get the correct wheel bearing seals for the rotors they sold me.

OK, bought a second power brake booster and master cyl combo for my 72 Cuda and again they delivered one that doesn't fit. It was the same as the first one that didn't fit.

Any ideas on where I can buy a correct power brake booster?

Tim
