Question trans interchange Q

Will a 5sp from a late model truck bolt to a 273? and will a 318 flywheel work on this setup?
just making plans for the 67 Baracuda

Cool

As far as I know, the 5-speed from the p/u truck would not fit without substantial modifications. As far as I know, your only viable option would be a Keisler conversion from nearby Maryville.
As far as the flywheel is concerned, the 318 flywheel would fit the 273 since both are internally balanced.
By the way,do you still have the 5th Avenue with the 360? Just curious.
Kudos from Johnson City!!!

yup

darn, I was thinking that the 3.9 V6 had the same trans bolt pattern as the LA block.
And yes I still have the 5th Ave. It now sports new wheels and tires an a lowered stance. Next time I get it out, I will take some pics and post em.
My new project is a 67 Barracuda that my brother gave up on and gave to me. its a /6-904-7.25" car right now. but I do have a 65' 273 for it. and was really wanting a manual gearbox for it. I dont want to make this car a hotrod but a fun cruiser that has the power when needed.

Just install a A727 and be done with it or a real A 833. That's the only thing that will fit.

Default V6/v8 Magnum and V8 LA

The bellhousing on LA/Magnum are the same bolt pattern, no matter what dwc43 says, as far as strengh that is another issue the V6 tranny might live behind a 273 if stock and no power shifting if just driven for daily driver. The pilot bushing may need to get one designed for autocrank and input shaft may need modified so as not to bottom out in back of crank. should be a fairly straight swap otherwise.

DART you need to learn to read. I never said it would not mount to the mag belhousing. But the shifter would be in the back seat. And it would not fit the tranny tunnel. Even Chuck knows more about it than you do. Get your facts straight before you start flamming crap that aint true.

If you read Chucks post then mine you will see that it is the only thing that will fit. Even the 5spd mounts wont hit the stock frame, so it wont work without serious mods like Chuck said. I simply backed up chucks post after 5th ask again will anything else work and the answer still stands.

C'mon now, it was just a simple question. there's no reason to get your panties in a wad
What about an aluminum case 833 3sp W/OD? would the shifter be in the front seat?

Yes the 3 spd o.d. will work. It was used in F bodies and is the same lenght as an A833 4spd. they just fliped 3rd gear to the upper shft where 4th used to be and added the o.d. gear where 3rd was. With the ratios on the main and secondary shaft you wind up with the o.d. ratio in 4th on that tranny. THey are just as strong as a stock A833 4spd too.

LA, sorry for the confusion there.

what about an A518. these are supposed to be a 727 with an overdrive added. I have one in my 93 dodge cummins. dont know if it will work but would be something to look into. Probably used on the pre magnum 360 and 318 too.
