Default Aluminum radiators-electric fans

Which brand is better, in your opinion?

Be Cool
Griffin
Northern
Howe

Other?????

I bought a 2 - 1"row aluminum "double pass" crossflow radiator, 31"X19", what cfm electric fan(s) should I consider a minimum? 650 horsepower street car. I've been looking at the Flex a Lite 295/298s, but I'm unsure! The core is 26 1/4"X19".

Anybody have a reaaalllly good electric fan they want to endorse?

Flex a Lite
Spal
???

Thanks!

We sell and use the Grifin aluminum radiators and spal fans. Also the same spal fan you can get from us is the same ones used on Craftsman Truck, Bush, and Winston cup cars. IT flows a real 2450cfm air flow. It's 15.5 inch size. You can e mail me if you need more info. ********************

Well, I just found and read the thread on electric fan- pusher/puller etc...
I'm not sure it has answered anything I want to know!?!

I see many claims of "2500 cfm" at "0 static", or cfm ratings with no static given, so I have no idea how to fairly judge the cfm potential of one fan versus the next?
Cams have a chance of comparison using "@ .050 lift" for duration, is there no comparison standard used by the industry for fan cfm?

Brand favourites anybody?

I think the Be Cool fan(s) are really repackaged Spals, am I wrong?

Marc,

As far as fan CFM goes, run as much as you possibly can.
For a typical big block in a warm environment (90-100°),
at slow or crawling speeds, shoot for a minimum of about
3,000-3,400 CFM.

I'm running SPAL brand electric fans.
They're expensive, but bulletproof and very reliable.
You get what you pay for.

There's a few guys on here who have gone the junkyard route,
pirating fans off of various kinds of donor vehicles for not much $$.
How a fan originally designed to cool a 200° all-aluminum 4 cylinder is
also able to cool a mostly high HP iron big block I can't figure out,
but many folks on here say junkyard swaps work, so there you go.

Whichever route you go, do a search for electric fans on here,
and you'll turn up a lot of really good information to consider before
purchase (brands, relays, circuit protection, alternators, etc.).

Good luck, ...... D A

Thanks for the input!

I have absolutely no interest in going the junkyard route for this car. I wouldn't care about saving a nickel as much as getting the best possible product.

It's actually hard, believe it or not, to get a fan that fits the rad that puts out 2500 claimed cfm, let alone 3000+. I had a parts guy claim that two 1800 cfm 12" fans would give me 3600 cfm, but wouldn't they just give me 1800 cfm over a wider area? That's the way I would think, anyways?

I can run my fans using the Accel DFI, I'll have relays for them, it's just picking the fan(s) that is so bloody confusing!

I have no idea what the brand of my aluminum radiator is, I bought it on ebay from a guy with an ebay store called universal parts. the radiator was like 200 bucks by the time shipping and all was done. I love the radiator, it dropped my tempby about 25-30 degrees, two of my buddies bought one also, one had a fury that would NOT run cool at all he would be up around 240-250 sometimes. sometimes higher! now he says he cant get the car over 210 even if he tries, it usually runs around 190. my other buddy has a little ford farilane with a 302, he had the same problem and it was cured with this radiator.
you have to weld on mounting brackets , that is the only down side. cant beat it for the price, look in his store also , i think he has replacement meant to fit stuff now also.

Well.... HEY!
I bought from the same guy!

I tried everything I could to find out what rad to buy, I was going to buy a Be Cool, but I think the one I got should be the best for me.

I almost bought a two row of the same size from him- but then I found out about the "double pass" rads he sells and figured I might as well try them.
I went to the manufacturer's site and the rads L*LOOK* impressive, now I hope they work as well as they look. Glad to see yours works good, that's for sure!
