Default Ratchet shifter question

I'm thinking about putting a ratchet shifter in my duster. My question is when it is in ratchet mode you are manually shifting the tranny right? And when not in ratchet mode it is a full automatic? I've been looking at the B&M Megashifter and the Hurst V-Matic 2.

Thanks for the help.

A ratchet shift just makes shure you are not jumping gears when you up shift. You can always through it into drive and go.

Ratchet shifters can be used either way. Just put it in drive or manually shift the car so you dont shift through more than one gear at a time. The Hurst pro matic would be a better shifter than the b&m junk. There is a poll on hte polls forum and Hurst by far is the better shifter even by our poll.

So you can shift up and down through the gears one at a time using the ratchet shifter?

Yes, that's what they are made for. That way you dont go from first to third or third to first when you really wanted second in both examples. Check out hte Hurst shifter. You'll be happy with it.
