Default Comp or Crane?

I have been debating between the two. On the plus size of CC, they get more lift per duration, but the smallest duration is 231. Crane is just the opposite. Anyone had bad experiences with either?

Thanks
Jeremy

Have you read "cam faq" , it's one of the sticky's.

I think most here would take the comp given the 2 choices.

BUT, if you asked me what cam to buy, I wouldn't suggest either. I'd suggest a racer brown, custom ground for your application.

Cam's are undoubtedly, the hottest topic on the board.

Given the choices, I would go with the comp cams as well.

A Racer Brown cam is a superior cam for only about $30 more. Jim will grind the cam for your specific application.

For what it's worth, I like Crane. A), they're local (Daytona), B), they're extremely willing to do one-off custom work (and guarantee it). and C), I've got some prototype stuff from them to test (at no charge), so I'm willing to do business with them

They also provided the entire valvetrain for my boss's *cough*ferd*cough Rustang that made 295 dyno'd hp out of a 289, so I'm comfortable with past performance.

Good thing the moderator is already on this thread....or else there could have been some flaming....

I will post some pics in the new year. I'm on track to paint it between christmas and new years. I'm trying to work in a "bonus" for the pictures.

Something that will keep the moparchat gang happy

Back to the cams, every one has an opinion. Glad to hear Dan has had a good experience with Crane.

Hey guys,

I'm also not a fan of comp or crane. Hughes Engines does a nice job of explaining the benefits of their "real chrysler cams" -have any of you tried theirs? I believe they will do custom grinds too.

Hughes does not make their own cams. They place orders with a cam maker. They also tend to be hit or miss. Sometimes you speak to the guy that knows what he is doing and sometimes you speak to someone the barely knows how to answer the phone.

At Racer Brown, you will be speaking it Jim and then within the next couple of days, it will be Jim that grinds your cam.

Jim has also been grinding cams and doing lots of cam research for many more years than Hughes has been in business.

I use a Crane cam in my B-1 engines. I originally bought the cam from Koffel and I have used the same cam or the same part number in all of my B-1's. It makes great power and Crane is not hard to deal with. I'll say one other thing in their favor which might not affect you. They pay their contingency awards PROMPTLY. There are MANY companies that really drag their feet when it comes to sending you a check.

I've used both and have been very happy with both. Crane has ground some custom cams for us to use in our dirt track cars too and they work great.

This is kind of off topic, but does anyone know of a good place to get offset rockers for the 440-1 heads and how much they run?
