i read a recent article on fuel systems and therein is a formula for fuel usage for gas burning cars. 1/2 pound of fuel per hour per horsepower. so theoretically, a 500 horse engine at max. output would use around 41 gph. now in reality, if i had a 60gph system, would be that be enough to make up for any losses in the lines, etc.? i actually have currently, a 3/8 steel line which, by gravity, flows 60gph, to a carter 120gph 8 psi mech. pump and then -10AN lines to the carb. the car is running now, but lots of do-dads to do yet, so i didnt get to test it at all. i could simply upgrade the line from the tank if its not enough, but, im wondering what to expect from it. by the way, im trying the stainless line because i already bought and installed it before i decided to jump up to the 440. i wouldnt cry though if i had to toss it.

In an ideal situation you are correct, but there are alot of variables. Each engine is different, even if they are assembled the same right down to the mechanic that puts them together. Just remember if it works for you run it.

Heat is one of your biggest variables when it comes to est fuel usage, and the g forces you endure coming off the line, your system sounds just fine, you didnt mention where the pickup is in the tank,if its a typical p/u tube forget it,if you have installed a sump at the rear of the tank you should be fine. you didnt say how fast you think this car will run but the fuel system should support low 11s or so easily....PRO...
