We've had aftermarket units in my wife's last four cars and I have a Mopar unit in my van.

I got a garmin that I use hunting because there is so much iron ore in the ground that a compass is useless. It don't pick up the satalites to good if you got heavy tree cover out in the woods.
It works good for making fishing spots out on a lake.

Its got a five prong round plug in on the back and says made in Taiwan on it no model number or anything. They are cool to use,we put them in minihydro boats and can tell top speed and map each lap but this one is too old and cant figure out programming.Good luck.

Well, I got one. Model 700 Road Mate.
Gave it to a friend of miine for a trip down south & he said it worked flawlessly, after he learned how it functions/calculates a route. We flew to Daytona then used it a bit down there as well, would be nice if these things were a lower priced option on more of the autos.

Default Gps

I have been running a Garmin IIIplus for several years now. Very handy on holidays and off road and boating. We even used it to check top speed on a hot rod.

I have a Garmin IV, that I used when hunting, and an Alpine unit in my Dodge truck. That is a very nice unit there. I recummend that unit for anyone's vehicles. Its tracks where you are going, tells you where to turn. No guessing, and if you miss your turn it will reroute your course and tell you where to go. Its a little steep in the price range, but if you can save up its well worth it.

I've got the Magellan SportTrak Map. It works really nice. Finds the satelites really quickly. The functions are easy to browse though. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. I'm a geography minor (cartography) and a geology major. I have to use units like these a lot. I had to use Garmins up on the Juneau Icefield this past summer. And I don't know if it was because of the fact that I was used to the Magellan, but it seemed to be harder to navigate though the menu than the Magellan. I don't remember what model Garmin we were using. But they were all still no match for the surveying GPS equipment that we had that was accurate to the centimeter!!!
