Default Diesel version of 225 slant-six???

Hi,

I have heard that chrysler made a diesel version of 225 cu.in slant-six. And even turbo diesel later somewhere in 1975-1983. Is this true? Has anyone seen these engines?I have even heard that chrysler sold 225 cu.in diesel polara in Mexico during late 70's. I would really appreaciate any information on these engines.

Mopar experimented with several versions of the slant six over the years. The diesel was one of them. It wasn't durable enough to put into production, this is common with gas motors converted to diesel. The Oldsmobile 350 that was converted to diesel was a flop, at least Mopar knew better than release the diesel slant6.
There was an inline diesel six made by Mitsubishi used in Doge trucks in the late 70s. These were slow sellers due to being under powered and didn't last long in the line up. I only recall seeing one of these over the years. I always wondered what MPG they got. If there was a diesel Polara in Mexico, it may have had this motor in it, it wasn't a diesel slant6.

I do not know about Mexico, but I do know that Chrysler-Canada was developing a diesel /6 in the mid 80s.

I never did hear anything about the outcome.

Jokela I live in Nivala about 150 km south from Oulu. Nowadays there is a HUGE Nokia Technology center in Oulu. Is there any pics of this diesel version or any more information(fuel pump type mods they made etc.)

I don't have any pictures or technical info. It was written up in one of the tech journals that was sent out to city, county, and state shops.

There was an interview in one of the Mopar rags a while back with one of the Techs who ran the dyno room at Chrysler. He said they had a running diesel Slant in the mid '70's as Charlie alluded to. It never saw the light of day. There were some pictures posted of it on www.slantsix.org about a month ago.

They were also working on a turbo-gasoline engine. Steve Magnate of Hot Rod magazine has most of the turbo pieces, as well as a couple aluminum Slant heads that the factory was working on.

Thanks a LOT for info

Info I have now is:

1.There was prototype diesel versions of 225 engine
2.With and without turbo
3. Head they used was International Corn binders ??

Extra info I need is:

What the heck is IH corn binder?
What type of IH I-6 engines is head from?
Where can I locate same head?
What fuel pump & injectors they used?
What turbo?

I need this info because I have few 225's and some info & experience with diesel engines. I am going to try building exact same kind of engine put it in my Aspen and drive away

An IH Corn Binder a piece of farm equipment used for harvesting corn built by International Harvester. Most of the stuff they made was farm equipment but they also made pickup trucks and a suv called the Scout. Since they made farm equipment the trucks were nicknamed corn binders. So you could be talking about one of these trucks or the actual piece of farm equipment called a corn binder.
