Get better gears. For about 150, you could get a way better ratio back there. If you want to get it going in a hurry, nothing beats a taller rear end. You got the flow in and out (consider headers? Cheap for your year!) but the 318 needs to wind up a bit and taller gears will really show an improvement. A better cam would wake it up too if you want to go the motor route. May I suggest a Chet Herbert stage 2, it was very snappy in my 318 A-body with full manifolds.

how do you drive it? See what i did to get the fastest time was hold the brake all the way down, Then hold the gas down and then let off then take 1st to like 45 the hit second and your at 60 in matters of a second.. of couse this way is bad for your car buy whatever gets you there quicker is what counts i guess....

What I did was. sit there...push gas fast, inwared...what till it reaches 60. I now have a didferant carb and still tuning it. My car leave fast from 0-40mph then takes like 4 second to go to 60. I should try your way. Do you have a tach in your car... if not your should get one. there super easy to install.

It's not bad for your car at all, reving in Neutral then slaming it into Drive is bad for your gearbox, same goes for reversing. Nothing wrong with how your doing it, thats how I shift in an auto car Works well, only thing is in Turbos it leaps hard then dies from 1,500 - 2,500rpm. Won't have the same problem with the 440 just can't leave as hard or else it will turn into a burn out contest lol!! Roll off the line in the big block, stock set-up cars. Taller gears is a great way to run lower 60mph times, I'd go 3:55's as 3:91's might make a meal out-of the 7-1/4 in no time.
