It depends if you want the ultimate or just looking for something better than stock. It also depends on how much time and $ you have. FI can be done with GM JY parts or you can go with aftermarket, big difference in $, but also in performance.
Cecil PS. I'm voting based yoyu want the ultimate. |

okay sorry let me clearify what i am looking for. i am going for something better than stock but something that will be dependable and reliable. i basically want something good on gas, daily driver. and something that i can beable to go out on a cold morning pump two times start up and then go. i am not into hotrods but i want something that will have the flow when i need it to.

I would keep the carbuerator. You won't be able to get the performance with FI as with a carb.

what do you need to do this?
I like the dependability of fuel injection. What JY parts do I need?

It's too bad the /6 was discontinued before F.I. became commonplace on Mopars. But it was a dated design that didn't fit into the shorter engine bay of the Dakota. This engine sorley needed F.I. for emissions. They were a pain to make them pass emission inspections.

The best would be a custom built aftermarket fuel injection system. You will have the best performance, driveability, reliabity, and be the most tuneable, but it will cost you.

Slant Six Long-Winded Machines
To PROSTREETDART:
My Graduation car initially with 17.3 miles, a 1972 Plymouth Valiant, had 551,602.2 miles on it and then froze an oil pump. I treated it to .040 OS pistons & rings - replaced - to a 20/20 crank because the thrust was eaten away 60 Thou's, used an OEM cam from Ebay, used new exhaust valves from EGGE, and lapped them in. 425-806-5209 |

Almost six full years it took you to get around to telling him that...
Just thought I'd let you know before Dick gets here! |

Would love to buy a 65-66 Dart 2 door and hop up the /six. Unfortunately even if I could afford one I don't have room for another car. 2 car garage, 5500 sf lot, 2 daily drivers, 1 motorcycle, and 2 classics - 1960 Dodge Dart Seneca (wife's) & 1972 Plymouth Road Runner.

That's easy... do what I'm doing...
Make your classic Mopar your daily driver. |

Only problem with that idea is the classic Dart gets about 16 mpg and her Toyota get 27. I do not know what the Road Runner is going to get, just getting it running, but I will be surprised if it is 16 and my Neon gets 30. Can't save enough in insurance costs per month to offset the difference.

To a lesser degree I face the same thing...
I was putting up my bulk mileage (I do over 50,000m a year) in a Peugeot 504. But that wasn't all so especially economical either. Then I got, largely with the promise of better economy, a Nissan 3-litre Skyline. It was a tad better, sometimes getting 30mpg, but with better acceleration. Where it lost out was in the weakness of the front suspension and ride quality. I put the Nissan onto LPG, which sells here for about half the price of regular fuel. It uses a little more, but it saves a lot of money. The Valiant will also get LPG fitted, it will use a bit more than the Nissan, but I expect its suspension will be stronger and it will have more torque. With a taller rear axle ratio, too, it might actually come nearer to the Nissan's fuel usage. I plan to fit a 2.76:1 8¾ rear. Ride quality will definitely be better, and with Peugeot front seats it should be very comfortable. |

Here are some pictures of a multi-point injected turbo \6. It uses a FAST efi controller. This engine is curretnly in a 39 Studebaker pick-up. The intake and exhaust are hand fabricated.

Wow, that gives more meaning to "on the bottle"! Im doing one right now, going to pick up 2 T25's for some boost, Im going to run one on my slant and then run both on my 408 if I get the urge. These are now in my reference library...
Epilogue: Dont buy T25 turbos for anything larger than a 2.0L motor...They are back for sale..live and learn... |
