Default Cam keys or timing chain for SB

Im taking off the eddy heads and 408 cam and putting on the stock heads and a 340 resto cam installed 4* advanced. My question is to use Mopars cam keys or a Cloyes timing chain with 3 marks for 4* adv. or 4* retard or straight up. Also if I use the adjustable chain and looking at it straight up, which way would I turn it for the 4* advance ? Left or right ?

The adjustable timing gear you are referring to is the easiest way. It will have three different key ways and markings designating which is retarded, striaght up or advanced.

I looked at the Jegs catalog and it dosent say spefically if it is 4 degrees or not. Do you happen to know off hand ? I am assuming its 4 but not sure.

While i have seen a two degree, they are rare. Call Jegs and have them open one. The paper inside will say what it is.

Most will be straight up stock, with a 2* and a 4* key way. The mopar keys are a lot cheaper than the Cloyes chain set up and works just as good for far less money.

O.K I found it in MP but its for a 3 bolt pattern. The small blocks cam gear come with one bolt dont they ? How would a 3 bolt gear work.

One bolt cams require and one bolt gear, as the three bolt cams require a three bolt gear, not interchangeable. Which cam do you have? Are you looking for a timing set or the offset keyways?

Only big block cars have the option of having a single or triple bolt cam gear.

I bought a timing gear set from Summit for $40. It has the 3 marks for timing adjustments. Should go in next week if work slows down !!
