Question installing fuel guage question......

i have a 68 dodge coronet 440.

383 motor.

my gas guage has not worked since day one and i would liketo avoid tearing the dash down to find the problem.

need to know how to install a 2 5/8 fuel guage.

my guage pod will be water temp, fuel, oil pressure.

amp guage on the dash works fine.

and any comment on equus guages? i am thinking of the ones that are silver with white faces and you can change the glow color for night.

look just like an auto meter guage but much cheaper.

i know you get what you pay for so i am leary.

thanx!!!!

First thing you need to know is it the gauge or the sendind unit.

Take the wire off the tank check it with volt ohm meter to make sure its hot and ground it a see if the gauge moves if it does its the sending unit. If the wirs not hot there is part of your problem

I would also try to repair existing stuff before installing addon aftermarket components. If its anything like any other bigblock b body stuff Ive owned over the years, the tanks always empty anyway seems like

I,ve never heard of eques?? gauges before. But to hook up an autometer fuel gauge all you need to do is run 1 12v wire 1 ground wire and 1 wire to your stock sending unit. You can use the sending wire that went to your stock gauge. Just make sure the guage you get has the right resistance for the stock mopar sending unit which has a range from 73ohms/13ohms. Autometers gauges arent that much more and they LAST!!! Worth the Xtra $ to me.

Default fuel gauge.........

CHITOWN:

thanx for the info. i was wondering if i could use the stock sending unit. he whole install sounds pretty simple!!

the equus qauges are made by stewart warner. i guess the ones i am interested in were designed to compete with and take a bite out of auto meter stuff. i know auto meter are great, tried and true gauges, but the price!!!! ouch!!!!!

MOPARMARKINIDAHO:

i know st maries very, very well! there used to be a club down town years ago called the nickleodeon, spent more thana few hours in that place!

there was also a restaraunt down town called the cook shack that had the best double cheese burgers and gravy fries on the planet.

dont know if either is still in buisness.
