Question 8 3/4 or Dana - Which is better???

The plan for my '71 Charger is a somewhat streetable drag car. Something that is mostly track, but I can cruise locally on Sundays. My 383 has around 275-300 horses, but the plan is for a blown 440 @ 500+ ponies within the next year or so. I have been building the car with that motor in mind. Race prepped trans, fuel cell, trunk mount battery, electric fuel pump, most amenities stripped out of the car, etc, etc... making the platform for that power. Here's the question, I'm ready to order a new rear end. The current 7 1/4 the car came with definitely isn't cutting it for anything. I would really like to start to make some passes in the car. Do I go with a 8 3/4 or a Dana. My understanding is that nobody agrees on which is stronger. I'd love to hear from the MoparChat members on this. Cost for a new unit, drum to drum complete, is only $200 difference so that isn't an issue. The one advantage I can see in the 8 3/4 is there are a lot more used parts and chunks available, should I ever need one. If nothing else so I can easily play with different gear ratios. Whaddayall think?
Thanks much!

Question rear ends

Although I have had good luck with 8 3/4 stuff over the years, the dana 60 is definitly stronger.Basically,if its an auto trans, smaller will work OK but if your banging gears the dana is a better choice.I think you lose about 100 pounds with smaller too.Ive never had trouble with the dana but have blown out a few 8 3/4s over the years. And changing ratios is definitly easier with dropout setup,if you have other gears setup in carrier already.6 of one, half a dozen of the other, run what you brung.

It should have had an 8 1/4 under that Charger. Either an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 will work fine, but if you push it beyound 500 with that blower you'll need that Dana 60.
