Default Engine Combo

Well I finally have a 86 318 block, sure wasn't hard to find.
I also have the 90 360 heads.

I was wondering where I could find the stock deck height on my 318.

I am shooting for 9.5.1

I already know I have to mill the block because of the lower compression with the 360 heads.

How much I hope to figure out.

0 deck height maybe.

and then there's head gasket thickness or lack of.

I haven't decide on cam yet and I already have a edelbrock intake and matching 600 carb.

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you're not buying new pistons, right? If it's stock, from what I read, 318's are usually .060-.090 in the hole. That's too much to cut off of the deck. Cut .050 at the most off the deck, and .050 max off the heads, and check your valvetrain geometry, because with that much material out, you might need shorter pushrods, or adjustable rockers. Then use the thinnest head gasket you can find, which I believe are Mopar Performance PN P4349557.

If you're getting new pistons, just get some KB's, they're already taller than the stockers, and will put you close to 0 deck.

not sure why your building a 318, but, to each his own.
if your not up for adjustable rockers, hughes engines sells rocker shaft shims that are designed to move the shafts up if you have milled the heads so you can reuse the stock stuff.
if you mill the heads .060 you use the .040 shims. there is a calculation for other thicknesses but i am not sure where to find it.
when i milled the heads on my 360 it sounded like it was being held back. i installed the shims (15 bucks) and it completely woke the engine up. i haven't experimented to see if other thicknesses yield greater improvements but i installed some on my satellite at the same time and it seemed to lose power on the top end. just something to look into.

Hey, if he's not doing a major rebuild, you can usually pick these motors up for next to nothing, it's a junkyard jewel, baby!

Don't bash the little 18 too hard, they're not all bad!

Are you wanting block deck height or piston deck height?
