Question HELP - Oil temp sender location

Ì`m going to install an autometer oil temp gauge on my 68 Dart, with a 318 street/strip engine...

Does anyone know where the sender would be installed other than take off and drilling the oil pan???

Is there another way to do it and still get precise readings???

Thanks..

I'm sure there are other ways but the sensor tapped into the oil pan is the best IMHO

Question sensor location

Although the pan would be the best, you could put a tee fitting under the pressure sending unit, that or just tape it to the filter.

The oil pan is the only place for them, unless your running an oil cooler and it must take temps beofer the oil goes through the cooler. You can't put it where the pressure sending unit is since it's the same size as the large water temp sending units. And it wont work taped to an oil filter either since it has to be submerged and grounded just like the water temp sender. We run them on our circle track cars and we put them in the very bottom of the pan on the right side where the oil gets thrown to in the corners so it's never uncovered. :

If you don't want to pull the pan to drill a hole, simply drill and tap the drainplug.
You'll have to disconnect the wire each time the oil is drained but that's easier than pulling the pan.

No but why not do it right? I can see all types of using the sender for a drain plug

I didn't suggest using the sender for a drain plug, I suggested drilling and tapping the drainplug for a sender. Stewart-Warner recommends this as an alternative to removing the pan.

The drainplug (with the sender in it) is still removed to drain the oil.
