The easiest thing is to get a different third member. I would look for a 742 housing or a 489 housing.

The other optio will require the appropriate tools. To swap out the open (spider) assembly and then install the SG assembly isn't an easy task for the novice.

You could send your third member to Randy's and they will get you going strong.

If you have the gears you want already, its simple just to pull the open diff, and bolt in the sure grip. Use your old carrier bearings, this eliminates the need for setting pinion depth and such. Just set the backlash and let it fly, I have done plenty of them. Dont let people tell ya that the 741 case is weak too, its a load of crap. Unless your running 500 horse and 12x30 slicks. Then so is most other stock rears for that matter unless its a Dana

The only problem that I've encountered with the 741 is availability of aftermarket gears. I haven't been trying to sell it, so when you're ready for it just check with me. It came out of an old pickup that I parted out. I have no idea what used chunks are going for these days.
Any body wanna give us an idea of what they're worth? Whatever that turns out to be probably aint what I'd want for it becouse I really dont know much about it as I have never had it in anything that I've driven. But, curious non the less.
