Question Can an engine go from fuel injected to carb?

Just got a phone call from a guy who has a 1994 Dodge Ram fullsize van that has a fuel injected 360 in it, that runs. The van was in an accident, but the engine/radiator/etc are in great condition.

Question - can I put an aftermarket intake on it, and make it a carburated engine, or do I have to stay with the fuel injection? It's got the computer, etc... that comes with a fuel injected car.

Thanks again!

That magnum engine will need a magnum intake(or a modified LA), and you will have to run an electric fuel pump, there are no provisions for a manual pump.

Mopar Performance Parts makes a 4 barrel intake for the Magnum heads. Don't have the MPP catalog handy, so can't give you the PN. Call your dealer, Summit or PAW, they can help you out. Other sources, too, I'm sure. Like DC says, use a good electric fuel pump.

Thumbs up

That should be a great engine to swap into that dodge. You will have to put in a different distributer also. Put in an electronic ignition. Mopar performance or something aftermarket (MSD , Jacobs etc.) Their will be some balancing issues (An aftermarket flex plate w/ the correct counterweights for the Magnum ) will be needed.

Hmmm, swap the fuel tank and built-in pump plus the computer, O/D tranny and injected 360 into a Polara? Why not?? If I had all that I'd seriously consider the whole ball of wax as opposed to making the Magnum work with a carb, old Torqueflite, and aftermarket fuel system. Just my two cents worth. Cheers!!

Confused

A great idea dodger1, but much easier said then done. To accomplish that, you not only have to be mechanically inclined , but an electronics geek too. Boy do I wish somebody made some kind of a wireing harness kit to be able to swap a late model Magnum into an older mopar chassis.

I don't believe the 1994 360 is a magnum motor. 318 yes, but 360 no.

double check to see if it has 10 bolt valve covers(magnum) or 5(older LA style). This will affect which manifold you would need to buy.

in either case, an engine is a mechanical animal. it doesn't care where it gets the fuel from.

1992 and newer 318s and 3.9L and 1993 and newer 360s are magnums. All 94 v8/v6 were magnums

You really dont have to swap the fuel tank, you can run an electric pump with a regulator built for fuel injected systems. Not much wiring harness hacking either, you have everything from the van, you need the fuse box from van also, after that, its just a matter of powering up the fuse box from the ignition key. I say do it!!! You will love the fuel injection, plus there are lots of modifications you can do to that thing. Just go here: www.krcperformance.com
