not shifting
I was on my way to work and my car wasn't shifting out of first. This was the first time this has happened, it was running great yesterday. It eventually shifted into first after revving pretty high for awhile. My tranny is an automatic 904. I havent had time to check anything out yet, because I'm at work. Whats the deal?

The throttle pressure linkage controls the shift points, if it hasn't been tampered with or damaged, the first thing to do is adjust the kickdown band.

The kickdown band adjuster is external, it's located on the drivers side of the transmission case just above and forward of the shift lever.
The adjuster screw has a square head and a 3/4" jamb nut. Hold the screw while backing the nut off several turns. Using a 5/16" open end wrench or a 4" Crescent wrench, turn the adjuster in (clockwise) until it bottoms; then back it out two turns and tighten the jamb nut while holding the screw. If this doesn't bring 2nd gear back, there is a problem elsewhere. |

Have you checked the oil yet
On level ground idling in neutral, might just be low or dirty,John isnt the front band for 2/3 upshift?I could be wrong.

The front band is 2nd gear; if it doesn't hold, there will be no 2nd gear. The front band releases on the 2-3 upshift.
