Default 4sp. shifting problem

I have a 73 charger 340 4sp. If I shift at rpm under 3000 it shifts fine, however if I am in second gear and I go over 3000 rpm I can't pull it out of second untill I coast for about 30 seconds before I can get into third. thanks for your suggestions!!
I forgot to mention I have an 833 with a hurst pistal grip

I dont know whats wrong, however, it's not right for sure. My friend who rebuilt mine lives in Oregon city area. I can ask if he wants to do another. If you like? Guaranteed cheaper than a shop.

So, at 3000 RPM, you can't even pull the shifter out of 2nd and into neutral? Just a hunch, but it sounds like the clutch might not be disengaging totally. Have you checked the freeplay in the clutch pedal? You might want to try temporarily adjusting ALL of the play out of the pedal, just to see if it makes a difference.

He should be able to get it out of gear without the clutch as soon as he backs off the gas. I've done many clutchless shifts when my knee was all screwed up. But then I don't know much about trannys so I could be wrong. Maybe the motor is moving too much and screwing up the linkage if that is the case.

What a beauitful thing. A helping hand in an instant!
riquiscott, flipper35, You fellas could be right. I have one more to add, shift rods not perfect.
I have fits with my 4spd. I can never get it right. Even when I do or a shop does, it never stays that way.

Question could be anything

from a pilot shaft bearing to a counter shaft bearing to a linkage adjustment. Some like the gates a little offset for a better 2-3 upshift, but if you neutral pin the shifter on setup it should work fine.Any funny nioses?Clutch feels OK?Check tranny oil for metal fragments, also could be a rough collar or synchro ring. These are just a few things to look at,if it does alright in the other gears, probably not clutch related, good luck.
