Default drum brake help, frankenstein 9.25" swap

Ok my buddy is getting a set of new axle shafts tomorrow for his 9 1/4 and we need to find some 11 by 2.5" drums to fit a 5x5.5" bolt pattern...

ANYBODY know what year/make/model would have had a HD 9.25" rear end with that bolt pattern and 11" drums?

Are you sure that's 5 x 5.5? I'm pretty sure it's 5x5. Advance auto has 11 inch drums. Just make sure you order the Bendix brand. We could not figure out why they were so much more than the shelf drums so we ordered a set. We measured them and the Bendix drums were .020 thicker at the shoe surface.

It's actually on a truck, but I think the drums we need might not be from a truck due to the abnormal bolt pattern.

Originally the chrysler 9.25 (no, not a dana 60, that's 9.75) had 5x4.5" bolt pattern, but we're swapping the pattern so it'll match the front axle so he only needs 1 spare tire, and so that he can rotate them. On the front he's got a Dana44, and the rear used to be an 8.75 but the pinion bearings melted and bad things happend inside.

I put this in the general performance section because I have a sneaky feeling that the 9.25 axle with a HD bolt pattern was used not on a truck but rather on a large car, possibly a cop car or something.

Thanks for your input.

Well teh trucks went from 4.5 on 5 to 5x5 in the 80's and that's what's on my RamCharger. You can get those drums from Advance like I said. Jusst check them out. They should have the cheap ones on the shelf to compare yours to, but spend the extra to get the Bendix drums.

Ok I called Wildcat and talked to some folks there. Very helpful.

Apparently Dodge went from 5x5.5 in 73/74 to 5x4.5, and then switched back to 5x5.5 around 1980 and went with that for several years, and then switched back again.

So we should be able to just get the drums from 73 and they should work.

yarrrrr..

I gotta quit doing research for him. I like my 86 because all of the parts are 1986 spec as it rolled from the factory.

Oh, but I installed a set of Hella Rallye 4000's last night. Nice. Used to have them on my Subaru. They look a lot smaller on the Dodge.
