1970 Dart Swinger Disk Brakes
I just bought a 1970 Dart Swinger 340 that has the build sheet. The car is coded for power disk brakes (codes B41 & B51) but the car has power drum brakes. The previous owner said they were never changed from disk to drum. The power booster appears to be a Midland-Ross with a drum brake master cylinder. Its strange that other parts supply books don't show 1970 Swinger disk brake components but my friend has the same car with disk brakes. What's up with my build sheet coding?
Also, I do have a complete K-member front end from another Dart 1970 Swinger that has the 4 piston Kelsey-Hayes disk brakes. I will change out the complete assembly. It has manual steering while my '70 Dart has power streering. If I want to keep the power steering do I have to exchange more parts than just the steering box? Can I keep my existing booster unit? Do I have to change the master cylinder to a disk brake unit? Picture atached of my current 1970 brake setup. |

Take all componets to the power steering over to your car from the donor disk set up. Don't forget about the pushrod for the booster. I don't think you'll have to change master cyl.'s.
The power steering box swap is easy, just take the second half of the steering coupler. It's longer than the manual shaft. |
